Equipment: Over the years, Serzen has acquired a great deal of stuff. The DM is encouraged to give him any number of things that one would not normally expect. In his vast travels, it's quite likely that he's found at least one of the item in question. Be imaginative. Again, show is good...And if the old wizard keeps a sundial hidden in some secret pouch, well, what of it? He's got the power to be eccentric.
Appearance: Serzen just attained his 1263 year not long ago, and prompty worked what magics he could to reduce the effect of that great age upon himself. He partially succeeded. He reduced the effects on most of his body, and looks not a day over three hundred now, but Serzen's hair is still silver, not gray, or white, but silver, with a sort of sheen to it if viewed properly, and his eyes are a light, icy blue, so light that they're very nearly transparent. He stands about 5'9" and wieghs in around 130 pounds. His skin wrinkles around his eyes in lines of either laughter or deadly forks of lightning, depending on his mood. He dresses in voluminous blue robes, and always wears his cloak. To sum it up, he's tall and skinny as all get out, but still one of the more imposing characters you're liable to meet.
Background: Serzen Starkeeper ar Diluthium was born to a poor family, but his birth was surrounded by omens of a rich future. He studied for years under various magi, learing what they could teach him and then moving on to the next tutor. He eventually became High Court Wizard for all Elven Nations, a position whose title implied more than it truly held: certain of the elves accpeted him as the High Wizard and certain of them did not; it was about a fifty-fifty split, but none of his nay-sayers ever denied that he was probably the most powerful magus alive, so he kept his position, for a while. When Serzen was found to be training his nephew as his replacement, in spite of the fact that many other youths could have outstripped the lad, he was removed from his office and sent into exile for a hundred years or so to think over what he had done. In that time, Serzen learned from the dragons of the land and developed the draconic cloak which he now wears, as well as achieving a certain mastery over fire and electricity. When he tired of that study, Serzen took to wandering the Planes and learned a great deal more magic Out There. He had his soul captured by one of the Lords of the Abyss and served as His slave for a while, but after three hundred years managed to slay his Dark Master and free himself. He got married and settled down after that, and tries now to atone for the wrongs of his past. He has one son.
Role-playing Tips: Serzen, or the "Old Wolf" as he is affectionately referred to by his only living nephew, is a character. He speaks archaicly most of the time, complete with all the flourishes of the language, and is a stickler for manners. He loves to tell a story, and has uncounted ones in his vast memory of the ages. If given half a chance, an audience and a glass of decent brandy, Serzen will entertain for hours on end of his own free will. If anyone threatens his friends and loved ones, however, the kindly old man disappears, as does the formal speech, and the offender had best hope to find someplace flame-proof and very sturdy, and soon, before the wrath of this wizard pours down. Little is normally left standing when Serzen gets angry.
